August 16, 1930 - Francis Newton “Frank” Gifford is a former American football player and American sportscaster. An eight-time Pro Bowl back, Frank Gifford played for the New York GIants from 1952 to 1964. In 1960, Gifford was knocked unconscious by Philadelphia Eagles’ linebacker Chuck Bednarik, causing him to miss 18 months of play. The moment was captured in a famous photo. A member of the NFL’s 1950s All-Decade Team, Gifford was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977. Gifford served as an analyst on ABC’s ‘Monday Night Football’ from 1971 to 1997.
